Shelbourne resting players .........

.... for the visit of Sunderland tonight. Manager Pat Fenlon claims that the Irish league leaders are tired, having played twice a week recently, in a hectic schedule.

He wants to give the rest of the squad an outing, almost the entire starting 11 from the last league game, will be given the night off. It is likely some players will play out of position and there will be a couple of "guests" from Dublin City, the club that has withdrawn from the Eircom league. Of course these players will be looking to impress and find a new team, but will probably have little experience of their "team mates", not sure if they have trained together.

Shelbourne have a much more important match on Friday and will not be concerned about the result today. Sunderland are bringing a strong squad, have won their two warm up games, keeping clean sheets and should be motivated to go for the win.

Recently taken over by a consortium headed by former player, Niall Quinn, the Irishman and his fellow Irish investors, are still trying to get their hands on the remaining shares. They will see this as an advertisement of their potential, Quinn is convinced he can make the Black Cats a major force. Many of the players also have Irish connections and will be keen to do well back in their homeland.
