IRELAND ........

Steve Staunton has had a torrid time as the Republic's coach and defeat today, may well see his short reign come to an end.

Saturday's 5-2 defeat in Cyprus, has been described as their worst ever performance. Senior players claimed to be devastated and captain Robbie Keane said it was "the worst night of my football career".

Former Irish stars were even more damming, Liam Brady called it "a total embarrassment with no cohesion, no character and no excuses" and Eamon Dunphy "Saturday was the worst night ever for Irish football".

Following a long journey from Cyprus, their flight was delayed 6 hours, Staunton arrived home to newspaper headlines such as "Stan, You Muppet" .........The Irish Sun.

He was given the support of the Irish FA, but they refused to confirm that they would stand by him, if defeat came against the Czech's today.

The Irish squad was without six key players in Cyprus, Kevin Doyle should return today, but a further two are unavailable. The spine of the team, without Given and Dunne, is missing and Jan Koller must be licking his lips in anticipation.

Despite starting with 3 wins, the Czech Republic are unlikely to ease off tonight, as they will want to keep the pressure on group favourites, Germany, who are their next opponents.

Sorry Steve, another defeat and an extended holiday with the family.

4 points Czech Republic -1/4 ball asian line 1.70.

Good Luck.
