SOUTHEND-PRESTON

After their Carling Cup exploits Southend return to the bread and butter of league action, when they host title chasing Preston North End.

Following the high of defeating Manchester United, they are sure to suffer some sort of mental letdown today and will struggle to raise their game again and that is what they need to do, as PNE are on fire. They have a trio of inform strikers and have scored 18 goals in their last 6 starts and only league leaders Cardiff, have scored more this season.

Southend are conceding at a rate of 2 per game and that figure has risen to 14 in the last 6 matches. They have collected almost 1.5 points per game less than Preston, have a number of walking wounded and look in for a reality check this afternoon.

4 points Preston -1/2 ball 2.10 general quote.

Back later.
