AUSTRALIAN OPEN TENNIS ..... DAY 4

Two bets for tonight.

I am going to stick with Arnaud Clement, for the reasons outlined in an earlier post ...
Clement played well against Malisse, keeping things very tight, making few errors and winning lots of points on his first serve.

He now faces fellow countryman, Fabrice Santoro, who leads the h2h 4-2, these two have had some close battles over the years, but our man, has the advantage on his favoured hard courts, leading 2-1, with the only defeat being many years ago.

I expect Clement to run out a comfortable winner.

Ashley Harkleroad was widely tipped to be a top 20 player, but what happened ? She got married VERY young, lost almost a year to injury and seemed to be another of those players, that just drifts out of the game.

However, still only 21, she is fit, divorced and has got her ranking back up to 88 in the world.

With outside distractions at a minimum, she can concentrate on playing tennis and could have a good year. Ashley tends to start the year strongly anyway and had a good Australian Open last year, winning 3 qualifying matches and a first round tie, for the loss of only 13 games. She then lost to Maria Sharapova, but not before taking her to 7-5 in the second set.

She won her first round match, against Chinese player, Meng Yuan, 3 & 0 and looks in good shape.

Her second round opponent is Anna-Lena Groenefeld, who lost her two opening singles matches of 2007 and despite beating 156 ranked, Sandra Zahlavova, 4 &1 in her opener, put up some really awful stats. Making lots of unforced errors and allowing her opponent 14 break points, that is almost two per game. A similar performance tonight and she will get trounced.

Nice price on the American player and she is my second selection.

4 points Clement to beat Santoro 1.735 Pinnacle // 1.73 exchanges.
3 points Harkleroad to beat Groenefeld 2.48 Pinnacle// 2.45 exchanges.

Good Luck.
