MASTERS SERIES TENNIS ........ MONTE CARLO

I am not going to get overly involved in the tennis today, but have a little injury news to pass on, which may be of interest.

Jurgen Melzer is reported to be carrying a wrist injury, he withdrew from an exhibition event two weeks ago and also the doubles, both here and in Houston last week. His opponent, Sergio Roitman, is available at circa 2.10, he is a little limited, but has won two qualifiers here. That may have helped him exorcise the demons of losing a recent match from 6-1 5-2 !

Andrew Murray also withdrew from the doubles yesterday and may be forced to do the same in the singles, where he is due to face Marc Gicquel (2.44). Murray is still struggling with back problems.

I am going to take a small wager on Kristof Vliegen to take a set off, one of my favourite sportsmen, Marat Safin, who always supplies endless entertainment. The Belgian had a nice straight sets win over Nieminen in round one and will have gained confidence from that.

Safin has a 10-7 record here, with half of his wins going the distance, so this is a bet that would have won in 12 of his 17 matches. Marat is always capable of tossing away a few games and I am happy to oppose him in two sets.

3 points Safin NOT to win 2-0 in sets 1.893 Pinnacle Sports, similar odds should be available on the exchanges. Won + 2.679 pts

Good Luck.
