ENGLISH FOOTBALL .... THE STORY SO FAR

Nine/ten games into the new season and with a short break in domestic league games, I thought that this would be the ideal time to look at our long term bets, decide what to do with them, if anything and to ponder adding something else to our portfolio.

I previewed all 4 leagues and had a brief look at the BSP, in the week leading up to the start of the 2007/08 campaign and suggested a single team in each, plus a handicap selection in the Premiership. These bets have gone as well as could be expected, infact, they look in incredible shape.

One reader has already contacted me to say that he has covered the selections in a multiple bet, he is getting very excited and it is only early October !

Let's take a quick look at the selections and their current odds and then I want to have a longer look at one league in particular, remember, these were the ONLY outright selections given.

CHAMPIONSHIP

5 points Watford to gain promotion 4.0 general quote .... Hills / Corals/Sky

Watford are top of the table, with a 4 points lead and are priced as low as 1.57 for promotion with Stan James.

DIVISION 1

2.5 points Swansea outright 11.0 general quote

5 points Swansea promoted 4.0 Bet365/Tote/ Boyle/ Sky

After a bad run of injuries, Swansea have moved into 4th place following a 5-0 win AWAY at the league leaders.

DIVISION 2

2 points win Milton Keynes Dons 9.0 general

5 points promotion 3.0 Tote/ Stan James/Bet 365.

Dons are two points clear at the top and are the division's top scorers, Ladbrokes have priced them at 3.0 to win the title.

BLUE SQUARE PREMIERSHIP

6 points Aldershot to finish in the top half 1.72 Blue Square.

Shots are third in the table, already have 10 wins to their name and are 12 points clear of the bottom half.

PREMIERSHIP

6 points Manchester United 2.375 outright, general quote.

United have recovered after a sluggish start and are set to put in a big challenge, their odds are unchanged.

2 points each way Blackburn Rovers +34 points handicap 16.0 1/5 odds 1234 Ladbrokes....

If that is not available to you, or makes limited appeal, they can be backed at 6.0 for a top 6 spot with Bet 365/ Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, amongst others.

Rovers are nicely placed inside the top 6, are the only team to have taken points off Arsenal and look in great shape. Now 3.15 for a top 6 finish with Betfair.

Hard to believe that any tipsters, anywhere, have done better so far, if they have, good luck to them, they must be good !
I am happy with all the above bets and do not see any real need to "cover" any of the them at present.
Division 1 looks the most interesting league and one that we can take a quick look at. After being deducted 15 points, Leeds have cleared the deficit in double quick time, with 9 wins in 10 starts and sit in mid table just 6 points adrift of leaders Tranmere. A remarkable achievement . However, it is hard not to see them suffering a reaction soon, they have certainly had the run of the ball and at circa 3.50 they look plenty short enough. Personally, I could not have them in front of Forest ( 4.33), who have won 4 straight and are finding goals easy to come by at the moment.

Having said that, Swansea are still 12-1 with William Hill and at 1/4 odds 123, I could not direct anyone, who is not already on, elsewhere for a bet. Roberto Martinez has his team playing some very attractive stuff, despite being short of a couple of very key players, especially in midfield, for much of the current campaign. When all are fit, the rest of League 1 had better watch out !

Just to recap, if you are not already on, take a little each way on the Swans.... you know it makes sense !

Good Luck.
