A QUICK LOOK AT THE CARLING CUP ...........

There are a lot of games today, but quality is in short supply and in the English and Scottish domestic cups, it is more about attitude and application, than line ups, especially when it comes to the "bigger" clubs.

There has been torrential rain in the North West of England and that will be a great leveller. The games at Shrewsbury and Bury in particular, could easily go the way of the home teams, who started with positive results at the weekend. Chester host Leeds and the hosts will still be having nightmares about their totally inept performance in the 6-0 hammering at Dagenham over the weekend, that is not how you want to start the season ! The rain has been particularly bad in the Chester area, I just spoke to someone who lives nearby and that might help them, they will be happy to keep a clean sheet for as long as possible and United will be happy to win with the minimum of effort. Clubs usually put in a battling display after a thumping and it might take the visitors a while to get going. I am going to start with a small interest on the double result market.

3 points Draw Half Time- Leeds Full Time circa 4.50 general quote.

DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE - READING

D&R will be cock-a-hoop after knocking six past Chester at the weekend, but believe me, that said more about how bad their opponents were, than anything else. Steve Coppell's men opened with a 0-0 draw at Forest, who packed the midfield and effectively stifled the visitors. As always, Coppell will rotate his squad, but still has a lot of talent at his disposal and his players can expect a lot more space this evening. Reading had a fine pre season, including outplaying Villa last week, when Brad Friedel and the woodwork, saved the Premiership side from a bit of a beating. I expect them to win tonight, remember, there could easily have been four divisions between these two sides, but for a win or two last season.

6 points Reading -1/2 1.78 asian line.

Good Luck.
