GUINGAMP - VANNES
This is a derby game and I am sure that the visitors would love to "put one over" their bigger neighbours, but I am not so sure that they will be up to the task. Vannes are without an away draw in the league, winning four from twelve starts, so obviously tend to go for it on the road, but struggle for goals, with just two every three matches. Given that they sit nine points off the promotion spots, just one behind their hosts and with both teams seemingly free from any relegation concerns, surely both will look for the win, that could set up a late run at a top three position.
Guingamp are an enigma, I do not know what happens to them early season, but they start every campaign poorly, before bursting into life in the second half. In 05/06 they collected 20 points in the opening 19 matches, 30 over the second 19 games, in 07/08 it was an even greater discrepancy with 16 and 30 points, last season 19 and 29. This time around very little has changed, they collected just a single point from their opening five outings, but have now lost only once in eleven starts and are on a 15 match unbeaten home run, in all competitions. Maybe they do not want promotion, however "mad " this might sound, I have heard of clubs before who are happy to simply retain their status quo, especially in Italy, I have no reason to believe that is the case with Guingamp, I am just thinking out loud , however, it is a strange situation. Hosts might be a little tired after a midweek cup tie, but I rate them one of the stronger Ligue 2 sides and they really should have too much for Vannes this evening.
