TUESDAY ......

Lots of business to digest on transfer deadline day and I do not want to give too much away at the moment, but it was a tremendous day's business for Brentford and I can hardly be expected to keep that quiet, the Bees are obviously keen to at least cement a mid table position and then who knows !

The big news is that hero worshiped Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny has extended his loan until the end of the season (thank you Arsene), so too has Lionel Ainsworth from Huddersfield, the 22 yo is looking to re-ignite his career after two fairly big money moves have not quite worked out and he has apparently impressed in training. Ainsworth was sensational in the first half of Hereford's promotion season, before joining Championship side Watford and time is still on his side. In addition, young Ipswich defender Tommy Smith has signed a two month extention to his loan deal and Bristol City striker John Akinde has signed for a month, with a view to a permanent move.

These are all very exciting signings, Szczesny is just class and will probably play at the very highest level, the others are hungry and desperate to do well. The Bees already have an improving group of players, coming to terms with life at the higher level and could have a strong finish to the season. The backline looks tight, as a team they have plenty of pace and going forward this will scare plenty of League 1 defences . In the next two months Brentford play each of the bottom eight, with trips to highflying Colchester (bit of a grudge match) and Leeds (fixture of the season) sandwiched inbetween. I could dream of the day when a visit to Elland Road was a mundane experience, but then that is not really what following a lower league club is all about, the high from games like this can keep you buzzing for months !

Back later.
