SUNDAY .....

Way off the mark in the Birmingham -Hull game, where the visitors appeared happy to settle for a point, I must be missing something , I know they have three home games to come and they are fixtures you might well cherry pick, but the last match at the KC against Burnley, was even easier on paper and we all know what happened there. When the points are up for grabs, surely you have to go for them.

Tranmere saved our stakes and gave themselves a survival lifeline, Norwich confirmed their promotion to the Championship and Leeds ,once again, have decided to do things the hard way . Brentford have forgotten how to lose, are now nine games unbeaten and heading for a top ten finish, which is a fantastic achievement in a division where some clubs are operating on a budget 3-4 times greater than the Bees. I understand that the entire yearly playing budget for Tranmere, is equavalent to around six weeks salary that free agent Joe Cole is looking to earn from a summer move ! Footballers are entertainers, well, some are (!) and I do not have a problem with them earning decent money, but how can that possibly be right, or good for the game ?

Rochdale and Notts County will be in the third tier next season, congratulations to them, especially Dale who have earned promotion for only the second time in their 103 year history ! They have come so close in recent years and do so on a very tight budget, with a small squad and with a degree of style , is a fantastic achievement. Whether they will be able to compete with the likes of Southampton next year , is open to debate, Saints are run like a EPL side, have a wealthy owner, fanatstic facilities, huge gates and will probably budget to spend 80-90k per week more on salaries than a club like Rochdale. Not exactly a level playing field, but nobody said football was fair !

I have three selections today and will post one or two of these on the blog later in the day.

Good Luck.
