MONDAY.....

Football is a funny old game and matches, especially at the top level turn on very small margins/ incidents. Liverpool were very poor yesterday after they were chasing the game, but started strongly and were denied a penalty and probably a red card for Newcastle, when Danny Simpson handled the ball on the goal line. The match was scoreless at the time and of course, we then have a very different game, but Martin Atkinson didn't see the incident as such and the rest is now history. No sour grapes, Liverpool were devoid of inspiration, United deserved the win in the end , but all the big decisions went their way.

Liverpool have won 40% of games refereed by Atkinson and won 52.89% of all EPL starts over the same period.

Tottenham led at the break and could easily have been a couple up by that time, but sat back and "allowed" Swansea to dictate the opening period of the second half and back into the game, they equalised and only a fantastic save from Brad Friedel stopped them from taking the lead. Gylfi Sigurdsson again put in an eyecatching display and City really should have tried to make his move permanent before now, as they will not be the only club looking to sign him from Hoffenheim in the summer. Spurs woke up from their lethargy after that and two goals from Emmanuel Adebayor sealed the points and the handicap win.

Angel Rangel was given a torrid time by Gareth Bale and probably woke up through the night in a cold sweat still chasing the Welshman. BTW, I wonder how much Scott Parker would be worth if he was five years younger ? Another huge performance from him and the £5m Happy Harry paid for him last summer must be one of the bargains of the season.

Lots to like about Swansea, but I wonder how they will fare next season, if they are without Sigurdsson, Michel Vorm ( ?) and perhaps more importantly, boss Brendan Rodgers, who will be in the running for any vacant EPL post and having lived in the South East for two decades +, a move to a bigger club in the region would surely appeal.

Three selections from me today on the email, sent to subscribers overnight, at odds of 2.20, 4.50 and 1.99 and news of a team missing five starting players, not widely reported .

MONDAY APRIL 2nd

EPL : BLACKBURN ROVERS- MANCHESTER UNITED

I was amazed and disappointed at just how negative United were late in the game at home to Fulham last week and they should have been made to pay for it, with the London side denied what looked a clear penalty shout late in the game. They could open up a five point lead at the top of the table with a win this evening, which obviously will be their target, but a draw would give them a three point adavantage too and with QPR coming to Old Trafford at the weekend
and City going to the Emirates for a meeting with Arsenal, avoiding defeat will surely be the first priority for United. They have won only twice at Ewood Park in ten visits and only once by two goals, so taking Rovers plus this handicap, would have won in nine of the last ten runnings of this fixture.

Rovers would go above local rivals Bolton Wanderers with a point and like United, I assume they will make avoiding defeat a priority, they also come into this match fresh, having played just six games in the last 51 days and in good form, collecting ten points in that sequence. This will be United's 11th start in the same period and they have lost three of the previous ten. Rovers have goals in them, they have scored in 25 of their 30 EPL starts this season, including three in a famous win at OT at New Year and I certainly expect them to score tonight. United might be out for revenge, but they have the bigger picture to think of and if they are to win, I feel it is likely to be by a single goal. 1.5 units Blackburn Rovers +1.25 ball 1.99 asian line.
